SUMMARY:Short Course on GIS and Its Applications
DESCRIPTION:Background \nGIS is a computer-based information system for collecting\, storing\, analyzing\, organizing\, managing and visualizing geospatial data. It analyzes spatial location and organizes layers of information into visualizations using maps and 3D scenes.  It has now become one of the integral components of every scientific study mainly of agriculture\, forestry\, natural resource management\, and environmental monitoring. \nThe GIS-based analytics gives newer insights into the studies and helps in planning and decision making. This course starts with an introduction to GIS and the review of software which includes practical hands-on exercises for working with GIS software. The course ends with a discussion on various applications of GIS in different domains. \nCourse Objectives \nThe overall aim of this course is to sharpen hands-on knowledge and skills of participants on handling\, analyzing and using cartography techniques to communicate results in maps. This course is oriented more towards practical exercises and some theories behind GIS. \nThe specific course objectives are: \n\nUnderstand the concept of GIS and its applications.\nUnderstand the concepts of the GIS database management system.\nBe familiar and conduct spatial analysis. \nBe able to create map visualization using cartographic design.\nBe able to use GIS in respective domains.\n\nTraining Module \n1. Introduction to Geospatial Technology \n\nIntroduction\nExplore the QGIS interface\nDisplaying vector and raster data\n\n2. Spatial Analysis \n\nIntroduction of spatial analysis\nAttribute and spatial query\nVector data analysis\nData formats\, Working with attribute table properties\nLinking spatial and attribute data and working with database\n\n3. Cartographic Design \n\nUnderstanding the coordinate reference system\nMap elements and design principles\nTypes of maps\nMap symbols and visual variables\n\nTraining Approach \nThe course uses ‘interactive learning and sharing’ training methods. We will make use of PowerPoint presentations\, plenary discussions\, individual hands-on exercises\, and the application of open source GIS software. \nTarget Participants \nThis course is specially designed for researchers\, scientists\, academicians\, fresh graduates and or scholars of various backgrounds. The course\, however\, could be useful to those I/NGO professionals and practitioners working in the field of natural resource management\, disaster preparedness\, land use management\, environment\, and social science. \nKey Requirements \nEach participant should have a laptop with the required software. \nThe participants will be granted a certificate of participation. \nDuration: 4 Days (16 Hours in total )\nCourse Fee: NPR 12\,000.00 (Twelve thousand rupees only)\nDeadline for Application: This course is open all year round and has no application deadline. \nPlease fill out this online form to enroll in this course and book your seat: https://goo.gl/forms/DF2yfG2s5V6pGXQs1 \nFor further information\, please write to asha@growinnova.com or at 98512 30438
